Paediatrics focusses on children (from birth to adulthood). Paediatricians monitor the physical and psychomotor development of infants for potentially abnormal developments. They detect and treat behavioural problems in children and adolescents and are trained to detect child abuse. Paediatricians undertake preventive medicine (vaccinations) and treat common infectious diseases of the respiratory tract and digestive system as well as chronic diseases. Paediatrics differs from general medicine to the extent that it deals with the human body in the process of development.
