Meeting with Julien Torbey

21 clinics, 4 language regions, a wide range of professions, but above all: faces and personalities. Welcome to our format: one day with!

We will be discovering the professions and personalities that bring Swiss Medical Network to life. Today, we have an appointment with Julien Torbey.

Dear Julien, what is a typical day like for you?

My typical day always starts with an early morning coffee before consultations begin. This gives me a chance to catch up with my colleagues and review my patient list so I can optimise my time and prepare for surgery. Then I start my morning consultations, which include new patients, follow-ups and laser sessions. At lunchtime, I join the whole team for lunch, which is a friendly time when all the staff get together to chat, discuss and debate.

Afternoons are usually varied depending on the day, alternating between satellite clinics and surgical procedures, until 6pm on most days. Then I take time to do sports, such as tennis or gym sessions to relax, or prepare lessons and presentations.

What are the biggest challenges in your job?

My biggest challenge at work is constantly optimising my time while providing the best possible care to our patients. It's also essential to keep a cool head when managing complex cases and to collaborate with other team members.

What do you like most about your job?

What I like most about my job is the human aspect. The daily interaction with patients and the rewarding feeling of being able to help. It's always very satisfying to see patients smile when they feel or look better. I also enjoy teaching younger colleagues and working with the wonderful, positive team at the clinic.

A book or piece of music that inspires you?

I've always loved musicians like Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix and BB King. That's my old-school side. I'd love to invite them all to a Christmas concert at the clinic. For some of them, that might be tricky...
