Inpatient stays

During your stay

When you arrive at the main reception, our admissions department will welcome you and complete your administrative file. Please arrive at the time indicated by your doctor.

In general, admissions take place from 06:45 to 12:00 and from 15:00 to 17:00. For hospitalised patients, as requested in your convocation, you will have given us a copy of your insurance certificate by post.

Please come on an empty stomach, that means no food, alcohol or smoking 6 hours before your admission.


As an inpatient, you will be taken care of by our nursing staff upon arrival at the reception desk in preparation for your operation. Most of the rooms have two beds, except for the private ward where single rooms are available.

Meals will be served in your room. If you wish to have a meal with an accompanying person, you can order in your room or go to our restaurant «La Terrasse» where daily menus are available.

Visits are allowed daily from 14:00 to 18:30 for the common divisions. For semi-private and private wards, visits are allowed from 10:00 to 20:00. We ask you to disinfect your hands thoroughly on arrival and to be asymptomatic.


As an outpatient, depending on the surgical procedure, the nurse may ask you to shower with an antiseptic product and you will be given disposable clothes for the day.

After your operation

At the end of your hospital stay, the time of your departure will be defined in agreement with your doctor, in principle before 10 am.

If the nurse has any last-minute recommendations to make, medication, a doctor's prescription or X-rays to give you before you leave, you will be asked to inform the nursing team of the time at which you will leave the room.

Patients insured in Valais

You do not have private or supplementary insurance?

The Clinique de Valère welcomes all patients and offers them top quality care. The clinic is part of the cantonal hospital planning and can therefore welcome patients who do not have private insurance.

Patients insured outside the canton elsewhere in Switzerland

Since 1 January 2012, with the entry of the new hospital financing provided for in the Federal Law on Health Insurance (LAMal), patients have had a «free choice» of hospital throughout Switzerland. This gives insured persons more freedom to choose their place of hospitalisation. Indeed, for a hospitalisation charged to the basic health insurance, you are no longer limited to the establishments on the list of your canton of residence.

With a hospital tariff that is lower than the Swiss average, you will not be charged any additional costs compared to hospitalisation in your canton of residence.

Patients not insured in Switzerland

For patients hospitalised in the general ward
Your hospital bill will be sent directly to your insurance company.

For patients hospitalised in a private ward
The Clinique de Valère has agreements with several insurers and we will send them the invoice for your hospitalisation costs directly. If your insurer does not have an agreement with our establishment, we will send you the invoice directly to them. Medical fees will be billed directly to you by your doctor.

Personal expenses
Private expenses (e.g. crutches or extra drinks) will be invoiced separately and must be paid at the reception desk when you leave the clinic, as they are not covered by your insurance company. If you wish, you can also request a copy of your invoices from our billing department, which is at your disposal for any further information.


By car

The clinic can be reached very quickly by road from the A9 motorway, exit Sion-east, and parking spaces are available in front of the entrance.

By train

The clinic is less than five minutes from the Sion train station (direct trains, Pendolino, TGV des neiges).
