Da Vinci

The da Vinci surgical system is a robot-assisted surgical system used in particular to perform minimally invasive operations in the fields of visceral and thoracic surgery, cardiac surgery, urology and gynaecology.

What is the da Vinci robot?

The robot consists of a control console at which the surgeon sits. On the patient side is the robot unit.

The robot provides the surgeon with a tenfold magnified image, which allows greater precision, and through the robot's arms the surgeon can control microsurgical instruments.

Working together, the robot and the surgeon operate in real time with millimetre precision.

Advantages

The da Vinci robot offers a number of advantages over traditional surgical techniques:

  • Less invasiveness and therefore smaller external incision wounds.
  • Less blood loss
  • Faster wound healing
  • Less pain
  • Shorter healing process and hospital stay
  • Reduction of the risk of infection
  • The robot allows extremely precise control
  • High-resolution 3D vision and magnification
  • Much better surgical access in difficult to reach areas of the body
  • Enormous mobility
