Dr Aude Ambresin in Schweizer Familie: artificial intelligence for retinal diagnosis
Dr Aude Ambresin, an ophthalmologist at Swiss Visio, was interviewed in Schweizer Familie as an expert in AI-assisted ophthalmology. In the article, she explains how modern algorithms are improving the early detection of macular degeneration.
Schweizer Familie has published a special feature on AI in medicine, highlighting how Swiss healthcare institutions are already using this technology on a daily basis. Dr Aude Ambresin of Swiss Visio Montchoisi is among the specialists interviewed.
At the heart of the matter is the AI-assisted analysis of OCT (optical coherence tomography) scans. Several dozen images per eye are required to map the macula layer by layer. An application developed by the Bern-based start-up RetinAI analyses them in around thirty seconds, detects pathological signs and calculates, for example, the volume of fluid present in each layer in cases of wet AMD.
For Dr Ambresin, this means, above all, more time for her patients. The diagnosis remains the sole responsibility of the doctor in all circumstances.
