Inaugurated on May 6th at the Genolier Innovation Hub, the alliance between the Mayo Clinic and Swiss Medical Network marks a transformative step in international healthcare collaboration, combining world-class clinical expertise with a shared commitment to innovation, research, and patient-centered care. It establishes a long-term collaboration aimed at advancing medical excellence, fostering knowledge exchange, and accelerating the development of cutting-edge therapeutic solutions.
Four domains are covered by this alliance. The first one refers to preventive medicine and check-ups at the Genolier, Zürich (Privatklinik Bethanien) and Lugano (Clinica Sant’Anna) sites. Ophthalmology is the second domain included in this collaboration, including the following Swiss Visio sites: Lausanne, Zürich, Genolier and Bellinzona sites. Oncology and Research (Genolier Innovation Hub) complete the fields to which this alliance is extended.
As a member of the MCCN, Swiss Medical Network benefits from a suite of exclusive resources. These include AskMayoExpert, a real-time clinical decision support platform; eConsults, allowing Swiss physicians to request second opinions from Mayo Clinic specialists; participation in virtual tumor boards and interdisciplinary case reviews; and access to Mayo Clinic’s educational offerings such as webinars, Grand Rounds, and continuing medical education modules. The collaboration also opens the door to shared research programs in key areas such as oncology, precision medicine, and digital health.
For Swiss Medical Network, the strategic advantages are substantial. The affiliation enhances the Group’s positioning as a high-quality care provider with international reach, while giving physicians immediate access to world-class expertise without requiring patients to travel abroad. It reinforces SMN’s scientific ambitions by aligning with a leading academic institution and accelerates the clinical validation and deployment of innovative solutions—particularly those developed within the Genolier Innovation Hub. Furthermore, it contributes to physician development and retention by offering exposure to advanced education and global networks.
Mayo Clinic, for its part, benefits from an expanded international footprint and the opportunity to engage with Europe’s private healthcare landscape. The collaboration provides access to new clinical and scientific ecosystems, including Swiss Medical Networks’s integrated care platforms, the Genolier Innovation Hub, and specialized centers such as Swiss Visio. It also facilitates the co-development of innovative care pathways, particularly in the areas of prevention, aging, and personalized medicine. By partnering with Swiss Medical Network, Mayo Clinic strengthens its global influence and accelerates its mission to share its model of care beyond the United States.
This alliance embodies a shared commitment to excellence in patient care, scientific advancement, and innovation. It sets the stage for new synergies that will redefine standards in healthcare delivery and biomedical research on both sides of the Atlantic.
