Cancer rehabilitation

"Sometimes cure, often palliate, always listen". - Louis Pasteur

In Switzerland, more and more people are beating cancer. However, the disease and the treatment can lead to physical, psychological and social impairments. For this reason, the Oncology Centre of the Clinique Générale-Beaulieu, with the support of the Swiss Cancer League, has launched a cancer rehabilitation programme.

It offers complementary therapies alongside the mainstream cancer treatment(s) and makes it possible to overcome disabilities or limitations due to the disease or its treatment.

The aim of cancer rehabilitation

The first step is to improve the patient's quality of life, to facilitate the return to everyday life and to enable the patient to resume professional activities. The patient should be enabled to take control of their life again by their own efforts.

Treatment

The therapy is aimed at all cancer patients, regardless of the stage of their disease.

Various complementary therapies are used to reduce the side effects of the disease or treatments, but also to support those affected physically and psychologically.

Selection of complementary therapies:

  • One-on-one physiotherapy (e.g., muscle building, drainage, massage, etc.).
  • Group physiotherapy (e.g., pilates, loosening and balance exercises, cardio training, Nordic walking, Tai chi, etc.)
  • Nutritional care
  • Sex therapy
  • Medical hypnosis
  • Psychotherapy and counselling
  • Acupuncture
  • Reflexology
  • Yoga
  • Art therapy
  • Podiatry
  • Body image counselling
  • Social support

Cancer rehabilitation is carried out under the supervision of an oncologist and a radiation oncologist. A specialist nurse coordinates your care.

Before starting therapy, your medical history is taken to tailor the treatment to your exact needs and wishes. The therapy lasts 12 weeks. During this time, various appointments are made to check on the current status of the treatment, evaluate it and adjust the therapy if necessary.
