Parkinson's disease: LSVT BIG therapeutic concept proposed at Clinique Valmont

Chloé Fritsch, a physiotherapist at the Clinique Valmont, is trained in the LSVT BIG therapeutic concept, designed specifically for people with Parkinson's disease.

LSVT BIG ® is a therapeutic concept applied by physiotherapists and occupational therapists, focusing on large amplitude of movement (BIG = grand, in French).

Objectives and programme

Objectives

LSVT BIG® aims to improve :

  • Amplitude of step, amplitude of arm movement and posture
  • Speed of movement
  • balance
  • mobility
  • Everyday manual dexterity

Program

This therapeutic concept is based on an intense rhythm, which follows the following model:

  • 18 therapy sessions
  • 60 minutes per session
  • 4 sessions per week
  • 4 consecutive weeks

As part of this programme, the patient not only practices the exercises in a session with the physiotherapist, but also has to repeat them on their own at home and integrate them into their daily routine.

This intensive therapy enables Parkinson's patients to assimilate new, large movements on a daily basis. It also helps to improve body perception and control of movement, as well as boosting confidence and personal management.
