Artificial intelligence in the Swiss healthcare system: Swiss Medical Network presents humanistic vision

On 9 October 2025, Raymond Loretan, President of Swiss Medical Network, spoke about the opportunities and challenges of artificial intelligence (AI) in the Swiss healthcare system at the 90th anniversary of the Tribuna Medica Ticinese in Melide.

«Artificial intelligence can transform our healthcare system - but only if it serves people.»

In his speech, Loretan emphasised the practical applications of AI at Swiss Medical Network:

  • Assisted diagnostics in radiology, mammography and trauma care as a second pair of eyes for doctors,
  • Cody, the intelligent automation of medical coding,
  • Heidi Health, which documents and analyses doctor-patient conversations and supports administrative processes,
  • as well as the promotion of innovation at the Genolier Innovation Hub, where new AI solutions are tested and implemented in clinical scenarios.
  • He also explained the current situation of Swiss AI governance and ongoing initiatives such as Apertus and DigiSanté, which promote transparency, security and open data infrastructures.

Finally, Loretan emphasised the need for a human-centric and ethical vision: Geneva as a platform for global AI governance in healthcare - neutral, trustworthy and collaborative.

«We have the competences. We have the values. And in Switzerland, we have the means to shape AI governance that unites us and can serve as an inspiration worldwide.»
