Medical check-ups in amateur sport: are they necessary?

Regular medical check-ups and tests to optimise performance are not only of great importance in professional sport. They are also playing an increasingly important role in amateur sport.

Health and fitness have a firm place in many people's lives these days. While close medical monitoring is common in professional sports, athletes at amateur level tend to underestimate the importance of regular check-ups. Yet these are essential to minimise health risks and optimise athletic performance.

Early detection of health risks

Many serious health problems show little or no symptoms in the early stages. Regular medical check-ups with your GP are important in order to recognise and treat health problems such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes or joint problems at an early stage before they worsen or lead to serious complications.

In sport, the strain on the cardiovascular system in particular is a fundamental issue. A check-up can provide information about possible risks and initiate preventive measures.

Joint problems can often be reduced with the right training, therapeutic measures and orthopaedic aids. At the Rosenklinik Sports Centre, you can have yourself tested to detect and counteract physical weaknesses.

Performance optimisation

Check-ups serve not only to prevent illness, but also to optimise athletic performance. Thanks to precise analyses of the current physical condition, an individual training plan can be drawn up that is tailored to the needs and goals of the athlete. Performance analyses help to improve athletic performance and minimise the risk of injury at the same time.

During a performance check, the cardiovascular system, muscles and joint stability are tested as required. Based on these examinations, targeted exercises, training plans and, if necessary, further physiotherapy measures can be prescribed to correct or at least optimise the weaknesses detected. The ultimate goal is always to improve performance in a healthy way.

Mental health and well-being

Check-ups in the sports sector are not limited to physical health. The psyche also plays a decisive role. Mental strain, stress and lack of sleep can significantly impair personal performance and increase the risk of injury.

Sport and the psyche therefore go hand in hand: they can inspire each other, but they can also be a burden. Anyone who is stagnating at one level or another would therefore do well to look at their own well-being and seriously ask themselves: ‘How am I doing?’

Have yourself checked

Be honest: most people only visit a medical sports centre when an injury or a decline in fitness is already a fact. At our sports centres throughout Switzerland, we take care of you before it gets that far. We offer check-ups for professional and amateur athletes, analyse your fitness, identify musculoskeletal problems and help you achieve your goals in a healthy way. We look forward to your visit.
