Eyelid surgery: much more than just aesthetics
Blepharoplasty: purely cosmetic? Not really.
Eyelid surgery is one of the most commonly performed cosmetic procedures in the world. But in many cases, it is not just about improving appearance.
When is it functional?
If excess skin or sagging eyelids restrict the field of vision, surgery becomes necessary to restore vision. In these cases, it is covered by basic health insurance (LAMal).
Dr Antonio Iskandar, FMH specialist in ophthalmology and ophthalmic surgery at Swiss Visio, points out: « Even when we operate for medical reasons, the aesthetic aspect remains important. The face speaks, the eyes communicate.»
The procedure is performed under local anaesthetic on an outpatient basis. Swelling and bruising are normal, and complete healing can take a few weeks.
