Bariatric surgery as one of the most effective treatment options for severe obesity

Vertebral fractures are one of the most common spinal conditions, particularly among the elderly. Although they are often associated with major traumatic events, such as road traffic accidents or falls, they can also occur following seemingly minor trauma when the bone has become more fragile. According to neurosurgeon Maurizio Pintucci, a specialist in spinal surgery (Ars Medica Spinal Centre): ‘A vertebral fracture involves the breaking of a vertebra and can have various causes. On the one hand, there are high-energy injuries; on the other, conditions that alter bone quality, foremost among which is osteoporosis.’
