Immunoglobulins are derived from human plasma, containing antibodies that help the body fight infections. They are administered intravenously to compensate for an antibody deficiency or to modulate the immune system in certain diseases, such as:
Primary immunodeficiency syndromes
Primary immune thrombocytopenia
Guillain-Barré syndrome
Chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy
Multifocal motor neuropathy
Used in patients with multiple sclerosis, this immunosuppressant contains a monoclonal antibody, ocrelizumab. It helps reduce inflammation and damage to the myelin sheath, in order to slow disease progression and decrease the number of relapses.
