Screening and prevention during International Glaucoma Week
Glaucoma is an eye disease, often associated with excessive intraocular pressure, which can cause irreversible damage to the optic nerve. This nerve is essential for transmitting images from the retina to the brain.
Glaucoma is known as the ‘silent thief of sight’ because vision loss, which begins with peripheral vision, occurs very slowly and insidiously. Often, the damage is noticed too late, which is why it is essential to have regular check-ups to diagnose the disease in time.
Fifty per cent of people with glaucoma worldwide are undiagnosed. A check-up every three years is recommended from the age of 40. This is why prevention through early screening is essential.
Swiss Visio is committed to preventing this condition by offering free screening tests.
