In recent years, knee replacement surgery has undergone significant developments thanks to the introduction of robotic technology. But what does «robotic surgery» really mean? And what are the real benefits for the patient? Dr Mauro Molina, a specialist in orthopaedic surgery and traumatology of the musculoskeletal system at the Ars Medica Clinic in Gravesano, who uses this technology in his daily clinical practice, clarifies: «The robot does not replace the surgeon, but is an advanced support tool: during surgery, the robotic system allows for a complete assessment of the knee, offering a 360-degree view of the joint. This allows the prosthesis to be adapted extremely precisely to the anatomy of the individual patient, making the surgery increasingly personalised.»
