International Hand Hygiene Day – 5 May 2026
Hand hygiene as a central component of the quality and safety culture at the Swiss Medical Network
To mark International Hand Hygiene Day on 5 May, the Swiss Medical Network is once again sending a clear message in 2026 regarding patient safety and quality of care.
As an integrated network of clinics and healthcare facilities, the consistent implementation of hygiene standards is a central component of our daily work and a key pillar of our company-wide safety culture.
Hand hygiene as the key to infection prevention
Consistent hand hygiene is one of the most effective measures for preventing infections in the healthcare sector. It protects both patients and staff and contributes significantly to the quality of care.
Clear standards based on international recommendations
The World Health Organization defines five key moments for hand hygiene, which also serve as a binding framework within the Swiss Medical Network:
- Before patient contact
- Before aseptic procedures
- After contact with potentially infectious material
- After patient contact
- After contact with the patient’s surroundings
Working together for the highest standards
Through targeted initiatives surrounding International Hand Hygiene Day, the Swiss Medical Network is raising awareness of hygiene and infection prevention across the entire network.
Because patient safety begins with every individual – and with every hand disinfection.
