Ticinonline - The fifth edition of the Locarno Symposium on Sustainable Healthcare was also a success
On Saturday, August 8, 2026, at the Palacinema in Locarno, Swiss Medical Network once again hosted the 5th Locarno Symposium on Sustainable Healthcare, in collaboration with the Locarno Film Festival.
Held during the 79th Locarno Film Festival, Swiss Medical Network’s 5th Symposium on Sustainable Healthcare reaffirms its status as a key event for promoting dialogue among the healthcare sector, research, institutions, and society. Bringing together representatives from academia, institutions, and professional organizations across all of Switzerland’s linguistic regions, the 2026 edition delves into the key challenges facing the healthcare system, with a focus on quality of care, research, translational medicine, and innovation, fostering a substantive discussion on strategies for an increasingly effective, sustainable, and patient-centered healthcare system.
Following opening remarks by Swiss Medical Network President Raymond Loretan and Locarno Film Festival Vice President Luigi Pedrazzini, the symposium featured a reflection on the 30th anniversary of the LAMal, analyzing its impact on the evolution of the Swiss healthcare system. The discussion linked the law’s original objectives—to guarantee equitable access to care for the entire population through mandatory health insurance—with today’s challenges, including the constant rise in healthcare costs, an aging population, and the need to preserve the system’s quality, accessibility, and sustainability.
