New non-invasive treatment for skin cancer

Every year, nearly 25,000 new cases of skin cancer are diagnosed in Switzerland – an alarming figure that puts our country at the top of the European incidence rate rankings. Nearly 90% of these cancers are non-melanocytic, mainly basal cell and squamous cell carcinomas. Although they are usually localised, effective treatment is essential to prevent recurrence and preserve patients' quality of life.

Xstrahl: a major therapeutic innovation at the Clinique de Genolier

The Clinique de Genolier is proud to announce the arrival of the Xstrahl superficial radiotherapy system, a precise technology that enables effective treatment without surgery. Using low-energy X-rays, this technique offers millimetre precision in the treatment of cancerous lesions while protecting the surrounding healthy tissue.

Recent scientific studies confirm that it is as effective as surgery, with excellent local control of lesions and no scarring.

According to Professor Oscar Matzinger, Medical Director of the Radiotherapy Centre at the Clinique de Genolier : ‘The Xstrahl system represents a real therapeutic breakthrough for our patients. Targeted, fast and personalised, it eliminates the need for surgery while ensuring extremely effective treatment with few side effects. It is a considerable improvement in the management of skin cancer.’

Speed, comfort and effectiveness: a winning combination for patients

Each treatment session lasts only one minute, and the entire procedure, including preparation, takes no more than 15 minutes. After 6 to 12 sessions spread over three to four weeks, the vast majority of patients achieve complete remission, with side effects limited to mild, temporary local inflammation.

Simon Legros, Head Technician at the Genolier Clinic, emphasises: ‘Thanks to Xstrahl, our patients benefit from fast, precise and painless outpatient treatment. This is a significant advance that improves their comfort and therapeutic experience.’

Towards broader and innovative applications

The Xstrahl system will soon also be used to treat chronic inflammatory conditions such as tendinitis and osteoarthritis, demonstrating its therapeutic versatility.

With Xstrahl, the Genolier Clinic reaffirms its leadership in personalised and precise radiotherapy, ensuring increasingly innovative, effective care focused on patient well-being.
