Recap: INTERDIGEST continuing education event «HPV – one virus, many diseases»
On 5 November 2026, we welcomed physicians to the 26th INTERDIGEST continuing education event for general practitioners at Privatklinik Bethanien. The afternoon focused on HPV-associated diseases and their relevance to primary care – from prevention and diagnosis to treatment.
Our collaboration with INTERDIGEST, the network of specialists in visceral surgery and visceral medicine based at our clinic, brings together expertise across disciplines. This approach also shaped the afternoon’s programme, moderated by Professor Martina Broglie Däppen.
The opening session explored opportunities for HPV prevention in primary care. The speakers then addressed HPV-associated diseases in the head and neck region, followed by gynaecological topics. These included the management of cell changes and advances in the diagnosis and prevention of cervical cancer.
Further presentations covered the assessment of anal symptoms and treatment options for anal and perianal HPV-associated diseases. Insights into personalised oncology complemented the programme.
The psychosocial impact of HPV-associated diseases also received dedicated attention. Alongside the medical aspects, the programme considered the personal challenges faced by patients and their support needs in primary care.
The closing take-home messages and discussion brought the different clinical perspectives together. The reception that followed offered an opportunity to continue the conversations and connect with colleagues.
We thank INTERDIGEST for organising the event, all speakers for sharing their expertise, and our participating colleagues for their interest.
