A week of immersion at the Obach Private Clinic: Experience leadership, shape the future

In summary: The immersion week at the Obach Private Clinic offered unique insights into strategic clinic management, operational excellence and the future of the Swiss healthcare system – accompanied by valuable mentoring, practical learning experiences and inspiring personalities.

We would like to express our sincere thanks to Regional Director Cédric Bossart, Alex Dipietro and everyone involved on site. The week was intense, informative and characterised by an open, professional atmosphere – exactly the spirit that defines the Swiss Medical Network.

Day 1 – Arrival, gaining insight, understanding the organisation

The event kicked off with an introductory round with Cédric Bossart and Alex Dipietro. Immediately afterwards, participants were invited to take a seat at the ‘management table’ and participate in real-life management situations – from constructive conflict discussions to contract negotiations.

After a business lunch, we were introduced to the operational reality of everyday office life, before the management meeting for the entire clinic provided a broad overview of the structure, responsibilities and decision-making processes. It was a day that showed how leadership works in everyday life – clear, focused and people-oriented.

Day 2 – Operational depth and strategy in space

Together with Alex, we went into the operating theatres. The focus was on planning, daily challenges and opportunities, especially around the new KISSiM programme. This was followed by a meeting on potential renovation projects – including location planning at regional level and a very fruitful exchange.

In the afternoon, we continued with an insurance topic and a compact ‘Healthcare Economy’ session with Cédric – dense, practical and directly relevant to the management of a clinic.

Day 3 – Data protection, process design and tariff systems of the future

Wednesday brought us closer to Alex's day-to-day operations: support in day-to-day business, an in-depth discussion on the renovation of the reception area with a focus on patient data protection and relieving the front office team – an excellent example of how architecture, processes and compliance work together.

One highlight was the presentation on the new TARDOC/flat-rate system – a topic with far-reaching implications. In addition, an assessment was created with five practical tasks for an operational clinic director, which was to be played through with Anne Gillioz the following day. The day ended with a visit to the medical centre in Solothurn and exciting insights into the outpatient setting.

Day 4 – Practise, feedback, consolidation

The tasks that had been worked on were presented, run through and reflected upon with well-founded, constructive feedback. This feedback is invaluable – concrete, actionable and directly transferable to everyday life.

This was followed by further insights, including contract management with Cédric. Here, strategic decisions were noticeably linked to operational feasibility.

Day 5 – Stakeholder management in action

Finally, the journey took us to Fribourg. Together with Cédric, we gained an insight into the project architecture with three different stakeholders (doctors, insurance companies and healthcare providers) – a lesson in coordination, expectation management and impact.

It was both inspiring and motivating to see how shared interests can become common goals and, in turn, give rise to a project with a major impact on healthcare.

Personal conclusion – gratitude and perspective

This week was more than just an immersion – it was an immersive learning format that brought leadership, strategy, processes, economics and culture to life in all their breadth. I particularly appreciated the openness, trust and genuine mentoring. The trip was accompanied by enriching encounters, short work trips and an inspiring environment.

I took away not only new knowledge, but above all a new attitude: solution-oriented, data-based, patient-centred – and strong as a network. I was also impressed by the family-like cohesion within the team and the fact that bottom-up management is not just theory here, but is actually put into practice. Ideas and impulses from all levels are listened to and taken seriously – that makes all the difference.
